Restoration of the Weather Bureau-Civil Aeronautics Administration (WB-CAA) rooms Revised: 27 October 2000 The Weather Bureau-Civil Aeronautics Administration (WB-CAA) rooms will be restored in two phases. Phase I began during July 2003 and is expected to be completed sometime at the end of 2003 or early 2004. The collection of equipment, artifacts, and displays will occupy a single room on the first floor, north wing of the terminal building, almost opposite from its original location in the late 40s. Once additional funds are secured, Phase II of the project will get underway. In the 1940s and 1950s, Weather Bureau meteorologists, observers, and technicians worked from two main rooms on the second floor, south wing of the terminal building. A smaller room used for inflating pibal balloons was located on the second floor, north wing; this room will not be part of the WB restoration project. CAA specialists occupied a large room adjacent to the WB rooms on the north wing. This room has been designated for other functions, so the CAA activities will be co-located in the two WB rooms. You can click on Phase I or Phase II to see a variety of views of the restoration plans. Click on each thumbnail for an enlargement and a description of restoration plans.
This section of the page is undergoing review by Graden Harger. When this statement has been removed, the descriptions of the WB-CAA rooms are as authentic as we can currently make them. You can tour the original Weather Bureau rooms in the thumbnails shown below. Graden Harger has provided a description of the each room, where instruments were located, and what operations occurred when he worked there in the late 40s and early 50s. We have several images of the CAA room that was located next to the WB operations--these will be added soon.
